Cook Community Awards

Scott addresses parliament

The annual Cook Community Awards honour unsung Shire achievers.

These awards recognise Shire residents who dedicate their time and effort to help make our community an even better place to live.

Originally initiated by Hon. Bruce Baird, the awards are a great way to acknowledge and say thanks on behalf of our community to those who give their time often behind the scenes and without fanfare to work to improve the lives of others here in the Shire.

Award recipients come from all walks of life, like Julie Davis and Yvonne Gray of the Cronulla Lantern Club, winners in 2010, who have worked tirelessly many years raising thousands of dollars by making craft items to sell to the community.

The Cook Community Medal is the flagship recognition of the Cook Community awards. It singles out one of our selfless volunteers in recognition of their unique contribution.

Cook Medal Winners serve as an ambassador for outstanding leadership in community service. Cook Medal Winners include Margaret Beehag, an icon of the Miranda Magpies Netball Club, Rod Coy, the chairman of Sutherland Shire Relay for Life and past President of the Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club, Kevin Neilson.

Nominations for both Cook Community Awards and the Cook Community Medal open in August with awards presented at a special function in December. For more information please call 9523 0339 or e-mail scott.morrison.mp@aph.gov.au
