Securing the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games

Prime Minister Morrison played a critical role in the successful bid for Brisbane to host the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This achievement marked a significant milestone for both Queensland and Australia.

The Morrison Government had been instrumental in supporting the bid from its inception by providing full federal backing which was crucial in demonstrating to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) that Australia was serious about hosting the Games.

When the IOC announced Brisbane as the host city during its session in Tokyo, Prime Minister Morrison expressed immense pride in this decision, stating that it was not only a triumph for Brisbane but also a recognition of Australia's standing on the global stage. He highlighted the potential economic benefits, projecting that hosting the Games would inject approximately $8.1 billion into Queensland's economy and create around 120,000 new jobs — including 90,000 specifically for Queenslanders.

Prime Minister Morrison noted that the legacy of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games had been transformative and that Brisbane could expect similar outcomes.
